Small Business Informational Session and Thursday, March 22, 2007 SUBA has as one its objectives to provide the information and resources small businesses need to be successful in the The New Alisal Business District. We believe small businesses will play an important role in transforming our business district into an economic powerhouse for the greater Salinas Valley. We receive calls regularly from entrepreneurs who want to know how to go about starting a new business in east Salinas. We also receive calls from the small business owners in our area who want to know how to expand their operations and/or improve their bottom line. While it is possible to provide some of the callers with the information they require to make informed decisions regarding their businesses, it has become clear that there is a need in our business district to improve access to the kind of information and resources that small businesses need to succeed. In an effort to provide entrepreneurs with greater access to information and resources, we organized the Small Business Informational Session and Small Business Resource Fair. This two-part event was held at the Firehouse Recreation Center and made possible with funding provided by Pacific Valley Bank. More than 30 people - a majority of which were prospective business owners - participated at the event. As the first in a series of small business activities we have planned for the coming year, we provided a general overview of business, including: the importance of developing a business plan; basic small business financing; and, working effectively with regulatory agencies. Over the next several weeks, we'll be following up with these individuals and scheduling appointments to further assist them with the information and resources they need to make their dream a reality. If you are thinking about starting a new business, or if you would like to learn how to improve your existing operations, please give us a call at (831) 796-0896.
